Finally home

Well we’re here. 9 hours later than supposed to be, but here. I even made it down to the courthouse and was out in 10 minutes, hassle (and fine/jail/etc) free. I’ve got some other pressing matters to attend to and then try to stay conscious the rest of the day.
Of course my VPN isn’t […]

Well, it’s about that time - again

The bags are packed and after a small bite to eat, it will be time to head for the airport. This drive will bring us through my favorite road encountered so far - tons of curves and elevation changes through the mountains, with some great overlooks too.

My overall impressions of the trip? New Zealand - […]

You know it’s good when…

You know it’s a good TV show when you get your mother-in-law hooked on it. That’s right, it is 12:30 am here and we’re wrapping up a marathon session of The Office.
If you haven’t seen it, go see it now. Now I tell you.

Happy 2008

Well, I’m here to officially report that the world is still turning in 2008. Nothing eventful so far, but I’ll let you know if anything comes up.
Edit: Of course the various associated websites are now inaccessible, just as I’m trying to look up an obscure movie detail on IMDB. Thanks 2008, much appreciated.

NZ internet woes

Internet here works pretty well, except for the irritation of select sites being unavailable periodically. For whatever reason, Flickr, Yahoo (duh) and blogs under the Blogsmith Media platform (aka my fav car site, AutoBlog) are just unreachable sometimes, while other times they work fine. Various random others are unreachable as well, IMDB for instance, but […]

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — A magnitude 6.8 earthquake off New Zealand’s east coast rocked much of mainland New Zealand on Thursday, emergency officials said.
No immediate tsunami warning was triggered at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii by the offshore temblor. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
The quake, centered in the Hikurangi […]

New Zealand Day 3

Well, another long day has come to an end. I’m remembering that I’m happier in my day to day grind at home, but that’s for another post.
We’ve been around to quite a few cool places around here. Hell, just driving around exposes you to all kinds of beautiful scenery.

This is a pretty common sight […]

I made it!

Well, I’m posting here live from New Zealand. The trip was mostly uneventful. Our flight from Auckland to Wellington got canceled, so we had to rebook on Qantas and ended up losing about 3 hours.
I have a few tales to tell around the trip, but by far the best part so far was the windy […]

Well, it’s about that time

Yeah, it’s 5am. No, I haven’t been to bed yet. The house is in pretty good shape, the zoo is 110% ready for others to take care of it and we’re almost done with having everything ready to walk out the door.
We’re going to be at RDU by 8:30 and our flight takes off at […]

International man of mystery needs a world clock

As I’m interfacing with colleagues in England, India, Asia-Pacific and I’ll of course be in New Zealand for a while, I was looking for a convenient world clock interface to help me keep track of time zones.
I just needed something simple that would stay out of the way until I wanted to see it, that […]
