Power + No Traction + Inexperience = Dangerous

2004 GTO Wreck

I’m glad I had a 120HP pickup truck when I was 17 - if I had 350HP on tap (2004 model GTO’s) that mighta been me at one point.

Four local youths were rushed to area hospitals Monday morning after their car skidded off the roadway and crashed into a tree.

……………

“From what I could tell it looked like they stopped and did a ‘burn-out’ … when (the driver) accelerated he lost control of the car,” he said.

NPD traffic units were at the scene of the crash measuring a series of skid marks on the roadway to the point of impact, trying to determine the speed at impact and other collision factors.

“There was no breaking here,” said Sgt. Eric Riddell. He said the “scuff-marks” left by the car meant it had lost traction as it rounded the corner and swerved into the tree. The side of the car, a 2004 Pontiac GTO, was crushed by the force of impact into a group of small boulders and a tree. The kinetic energy of the car then carried the car into another tree behind it, said Riddell.

  1. Oh, you sure did try to do stuff like this (Grand Prix into a guard rail ring any bells?)

Oh wait, it was me who was doing the burn outs and sliding sideways (behind Target) :)
